Predictable Arabic shortlisted for UN WSIS Prizes 2026

We are proud to share that Predictable Arabic has been shortlisted for the WSIS Project Prizes 2026, run by the United Nations specialised agency for digital technologies, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). 

Out of more than 1,500 digital projects submitted from around the world, Predictable Arabic is one of just 360 projects nominated this year. Each shortlisted project is recognised for showcasing how digital innovation delivers real, measurable impact for people and communities 

Predictable Arabic was developed to support Arabic‑speaking AAC users with a communication app that reflects their language, culture and everyday experiences. Being shortlisted recognises the importance of localisation in AAC and the role it plays in making communication more meaningful and accessible. 

The project also reflects collaboration across organisations and regions. We are pleased to see continued recognition of the work supported by MADA, the Qatari assistive technology agency that played a key role in the Arabic localisation of the app. 

The WSIS Prizes celebrate projects that use technology to empower people and communities. For Predictable Arabic, this nomination highlights the global need for AAC solutions that go beyond translation, and instead centre users, culture and real‑world communication. 

As part of the awards process, Predictable Arabic has now entered the online voting phase. While the nomination itself is an achievement we are proud of, public engagement helps demonstrate the value of inclusive communication technologies on a global stage. 

We would like to thank everyone involved in the development, localisation and ongoing support of Predictable Arabic, as well as the AAC users and families whose experiences continue to shape this work. Recognition like this reinforces why accessible, culturally relevant communication tools matter.
